New music on Athens’ fantastic Echovolt Records from the mind of Melbourne synthesist Harvey Sutherland; the EP is entitled ‘Edges’ and reputedly blossomed from Sutherland’s intricate live improvisations, resulting in four warm, house tempo pieces that harmonically blend boogie, deep house and jazz funk signatures.

‘Q3’, the EP’s opener and a longer edit of a version featured on a limited cassette release from last year, sets the tone perfectly for what follows; ‘Sunday Flower’ treads an assured house path with a driving rhythm and synth line that ought to deliver you straight to the dance floor, while ‘Speaking Your Language’ takes a more laid back yet still swaggering approach.

The EP’s closing and titular track ‘Edges’ is Sutherland’s finest moment here; a powerful yet emotional dance floor groove rooted in the tradition of the aural aesthetic it touches upon, while entwining a simultaneous sense of its future. Love it!
